Taking Sustainability to New Levels in the Tar Heel State

Green Home Builder Magazine spotlights Briar Chapel and Wendell Falls

We’re thrilled that two of our North Carolina communities are featured in the May/June issue of Green Home Builder Magazine. Wendell Falls, located in Wendell, and Briar Chapel, nestled in Chapel Hill, are setting the standard for sustainable living in central North Carolina. From the land planning to the green-built homes, these communities not only save residents money but also provide a welcoming, active haven that they can call home.

What does going green look like in practice?

Briar Chapel offers third-party certified homes built according to the rigorous NGBS green standard -- homes that are 25 percent more efficient than the average North Carolina house. Residents enjoy 20+ miles of trails, 900 acres of preserved open space and 20+ luscious green parks. To date, Briar Chapel has built 10 net-zero and 73 solar homes. In fact, these measures save residents approximately $606 annually -- which adds up to $6.4 million across the community since our inception.

Wendell Falls stands as the largest EcoSelect community in the Triangle, touting homes that are 23 percent more efficient than average code-built structures. Eight net-zero and 29 solar homes dot this community, along with miles of trails, parks and sustainably certified amenities. The results? Wendell Falls residents enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle along with annual savings of approximately $688 -- which adds up to $876,000 community-wide. It’s no wonder that Briar Chapel and Wendell Falls are turning the heads of publications like Green Home Builder Magazine.
