Newland’s founder Bob McLeod joins Genstar Land Company, Newland’s predecessor, and is promoted to Chief Executive Officer of US Operations.
The Newland Group, in partnership with American General, is formed and purchases the US property division of Genstar Corporation.
The Newland Group and American General partnership ends. Newland principals form a new partnership and become the first land development advisor to CalPERS, receiving a significant allocation for investment in California housing and land development.
Hunt Realty Investments of Dallas, Texas, a Hunt subsidiary, acquires an interest in Newland. Newland and CalPERS form a partnership to invest in housing and land development nationally.
With CalPERS, Newland purchases Genstar Land Company, consisting of 34 community development projects in seven states.
In partnership with CalPERS, AIG, and Northwestern Mutual, Newland raises capital to acquire 21 community development projects from Terrabrook, the land development unit of Westbrook Partners.
Newland is chosen by the City of Las Vegas as project manager of Symphony Park, a 61-acre mixed-use urban development in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. Newland raises additional capital from CalPERS, AIG, and Northwestern Mutual for investment in new acquisitions in the US.
Newland is awarded “Developer of the Year” by Builder and Developer Magazine and forms its first partnership with North America Sekisui House, LLC (NASH). Newland and NASH acquire a 492-acre addition to the highly successful Cinco Ranch community in Houston, Texas.
Newland and NASH acquire CalPERS’ interest in 28 master-planned communities, creating the largest operating portfolio of master-planned communities in the US and acquire 4,240-acre Tehaleh near Tacoma, Washington.
Newland and NASH acquire 818-acre Embrey Mill in Stafford, Virginia; 3,460-acre Elyson in Houston, Texas; 550-acre Rancho Sienna in Austin, Texas; and 1,115-acre Wendell Falls in Wendell, North Carolina.
Newland and NASH acquire 422-acre Hollyhock in Frisco, Texas. Newland becomes development manager for NASH's acquisition of 1,807-acre Bowater in Charlotte, North Carolina and 1,396-acre Riverlights in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Newland is inducted into the William S. Marvin Hall of Fame for Design Excellence by Builder Magazine, recognizing excellence in innovation and residential development.
